The first thing you will learn is the clock method taught in every army in the world to search and pinpoint targets using the numbers on the clock as reference points. The centre of the clock becomes your base walking down the street sitting in your car coming home from college or work in the subway.
You will be then taught basic moves consisting of some hand and kicking techniques, a horse stance, cat stance, neutral stance, to teach you the student to move with ease and manipulate your opponent or opponents in a defensive situation.
You will then be taught as a beginner the star blocking set one, consisting of several blocks such as an upward, inward, outward, extended outward, downward outward, inward downward, push down and the reverse motions of your blocks will be elbows strikes.
Now you are ready to be taught the 10 self-defense techniques consisting of defences against such attacks as a right punch, a two handed attempted push to the ground, a left punch, a right kick, a bear hug from behind, a side headlock, an over head baton or knife attack, a double lapel grab, a right straight punch to you face a shoulder grab from behind. The next part of the yellow belt syllabus will teach you short form 1 (also known as a kata which is no more than a sequence of movements that teaches you how to move with ease as you manipulate your opponent or opponents using techniques and the clock method to assist you in dealing with any situation.
Short form 1 also teaches you how to retreat simultaneously as you intercept a punch or kick, you are also introduced to mass attacks defending against four guys one coming from 12 o’ clock second from 9 o’clock third from 3 o’clock fourth from 6 o’clock.
The next and last part of the yellow belt syllabus for you to learn is the freestyle sparring techniques used in combat and competitions. There are four in all, the first one on this belt will teach you how to overcome your opponent in a stationary position, the second one will teach you how to close the gap between you and your opponent by shuffling forward which is no more than a push drag, the third one will teach you how to execute a right front crossover and a left step forward toward 12 o’clock, the fourth one is similar to third one with a right step through after your left step forward toward 12 o’clock.
